“It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.”(Psalms 127:2 NASB)
I’ve been thinking about this verse a lot over the past week. Americans are busy people. We spend every waking moment doing. If we’re not working or sleeping, we’re on our phones or computers or watching television. When was the last time you just sat quietly without doing anything?
I’m a busy person. I don’t like downtime and even when I do find myself with nothing to do…I find something to do. I rise early and retire late, working fulltime at one job and part time at another. Even when I’m at home, my mind is racing with all the things I need to do. Yet after reading this verse, I’m hit with a reality check from God. What am I really accomplishing with all my “busy-ness?”
What I need is to trust God more and allow Him to move me according to His will.
