July 4, 1776. We honor that day long ago, and yet not so long, when our forefathers were fighting and dying for freedom. The continental congress, as representatives of each new state, made the decision that those lives would be laid down for something greater: a new nation built upon the principle of liberty.
Let’s celebrate today not just as a holiday, but as a chance to reflect on those who sacrificed everything for the dream of an American nation founded on freedom of all people. Happy birthday to the United States of America!
Here are a few patriotic quotes to help us appreciate the freedoms we share as citizens of the United States of America.
“Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.” -Marquis de Lafayette
“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” – John F. Kennedy
“He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself.” – Thomas Paine
“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” –
Thomas Jefferson
“Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.” -Abraham Lincoln
“Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance.” -Woodrow Wilson
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” -Mark Twain
Amen!
